Helping Thames Valley Police with enquiries

For the last few years, Visions in association with Meridian have provided technical services to Thames Valley Police, normally generators, power distribution, and lighting for outdoor events which the police are providing public safety and crowd control.

In August 2006, we were asked to visit a site in High Wycombe, to look at providing operational support for an investigation, this not only turned out to be one of the longest running jobs we have ever done but one of the most interesting.

The Metropolitan Police and TVP had arrested several people in connection with a terrorist plot to blow up airliners; this went to court march 2008. The woods in Wycombe had been one of their test sites.

We were asked to provide site electrics to the main search village where the officers were based, but also onsite lighting within the woods for the perimeters of the search zones, sounds simple, but every other day the zones changed in the woods, therefore all the lighting had to change.

The project started on four week duration, by the end we had been in Wycombe eighteen weeks, moving lighting on a daily basis, as well as moving main search sites twice. Equipment wise, we had 15Kva – 100Kva generator sets, miles of cable, and nearly a hundred different generic lighting fixtures.

After two weeks of shifting little generators and fuel about we had to follow the route of the search team officers and had to enlist the help of an Argo 6x6, an all terrain vehicle, with load carrying capacity, this is now another item of equipment in the Visions transport fleet. In the middle of the operation we were using 180 litres a day of fuel in little 2.2Kva generators, as well as the fuel in the main search village generators.

This case study provides testament of our vesitility for short notice needs of clients, and also when things change and a job gets extended in length the ability to adapt and cope with it. Half the moves and developments of this job we unexpected and un-planned for and on the fly thinking was needed.
